7th May 2010

The Hinckley Town Centre Partnership/BID are planning a Soap Box Derby as a local family fun day in Hinckley town centre for the teams, supporters and spectators of all ages from the Hinckley area and beyond.

The aim of the event is to encourage up to 40 Soap Box Teams to compete and to utilise the natural hill on Castle Street in the town centre for individual Soap Box ‘Time-Trials’ with 2 runs per Team. The course will start from the Church Walk junction on Castle Street and end in the Market Square (but could be Regents street and beyond if your brakes don’t work!!)..

Brightly themed or business branded Soap Boxes are especially encouraged since they will provide the most interest and recognition fro the spectators. The entry fee for each ‘Soap Box Team’ will be just £25 per team, this event will be subsidised by the Hinckley Town Centre Partnership but the whole event is intended to raise money for local charities.

Soap Box Derby teams will be encouraged to seek sponsorship, based upon their Soap Box’s performance, for Charities within Hinckley Town Centre. A Sponsorship Form listing these Charities can be obtained from the Hinckley Town Centre Partnership/BID Business Centre and each team can choose and promote the Charity that they would like to support.

Competition prizes will be awarded to recognise the dedication of the teams on the day. The prize categories for 2010 will are:

•  Fastest single time on the day
•  Best turned out soap box and crew
•  Overall fastest team (an aggregate of the 2 runs)
•  Most sponsorship collected
•  Best Novelty soap box

If you or your business would like to take part and enter your customised Soap Box then contact The Business Centre, 76 Castle St, Hinckley, LE10 1DD on 01455 698494 (9am-5pm) and they will send you a copy of the Race Pack with full instructions.

Be quick though because the closing date for entries will be Wednesday 30th June 2010 to enable the full race programme to be printed and since numbers may have to be limited, it must be on a first-come basis!
