We loved everything about The Old Government House Hotel: our beautiful room with a balcony and sea view, the lovely public spaces and gardens, tea in the garden, piano music in the evening. What makes the hotel a stand-out, though, is the service. It is perfect. Special kudos to the concierge staff, especially Jaro, for making OGH and Guernsey a place we hope to return to! Not only is no request too much trouble but you are made to feel as if helping you gives the staff real pleasure. It's clear that the staff loves Guernsey and wants their guests to love it too. OGH is part of the Red Carnation group. I will definitely seek out their other hotels in my travels based on our stay at OGH.

We stayed for my brothers wedding, fantastic service from start to finish, very helpful staff. Room was comfortable with lovely decor. Dinner and breakfast was very good. Also a great location if you are visiting the island as it's right in the centre of town.

The hotel itself is undergoing some renovations in the 'quiet' season, these are being done as discreetly as possible. If your looking for a slick high quality of service 'chain' hotel, then this is not it. The staff are generally very helpful and friendly, the exception was one lady on reception, whom, when asked a few questions, was less than helpful and it felt like I was getting blood from a stone!
The room, was very pleasant and well equipped including an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe. It's just a shame I couldn't enjoy it for longer and the bed extremely comfortable. The Victor Hugo dining room although slightly dated was a great location for both breakfast and the one night I ate in there. The quality of the food was brilliant.
Parking is not an issue as there is ample for all.
My rating for this would be Good but it's not good enough for Very Good.

This was the most easy going hotel I have ever stayed at. The staff could not do enough to make your stay comfortable and relaxing.
The bed was so comfortable with lots of pillows!
The food in the restaurant was amazing and the atmosphere relaxing.
There is a large swimming pool which was lovely and warm, a sauna and steam room.
There is a very good bus service just a few minutes walk away that takes you around the island and to the local town with some excellent shops.

We stayed on a very short break for a business trip to Guernsey. The hotel is currently experiencing a bit of a makeover and it is producing great results.

The room was very nice, although lack of a thermostat meant it was very hot. Smart, clean, and a good bathroom. Very comfy bed.

Breakfast was good and a wide selection to choose from. Not convinced about the Eggs Benedict being hard boiled, but never mind - it still tasted good.

The pool is lovely and a decent size which is rare in hotels these days. The steam room and sauna need bringing up to date, but I guess this is difficult to do when the hotel is always open and it didn't spoil my enjoyment at all. The staff at the spa were really helpful and friendly.

Actually, all the staff we met were excellent - friendly, helpful and ready to make you feel at home.

Nearly forgot - free WIFI ! an absolute essential these days. Fantastic.

Would I stay again - yes because it was a genuine hotel. I felt the people really cared about the guests and the hotel. That sort of thing makes a big difference.

We stayed here for a few days delayed Valentine weekend and it was lovely. Staff could not do more for us and booked restaurants and arranged taxi's etc. Always greeted us with a smile and it made a huge difference to our stay as the weather let us down. Pool was clean and tidy and the staff very helpful. Massage was lovely and restaurant food was gorgeous.
The bus's were good value and we travelled all round the island on them, £1 for each trip very good value. Bus drivers very helpful and even the islanders were nice.

Our First visit to guernsey. We received a very warm welcome from the lady on reception on arrival . First impressions were very good .check in was very efficient . We were then shown to our room by a member of staff.
We had booked an executive double. The room was very clean although slightly dated The bed was very big and very comfortable with nice bedding and plenty of pillows .Nice spacious bathroom.with a selection of products and fluffy white towels . We had a very nice selection of teas ,and also a nespresso coffee
machine and coffee capsules. ( we have only ever had this in our room in Cyprus) I was delighted.
Our room was 264 ,overlooking the lovely gardens and lake .it was in a nice quiet part of the hotel ,and had a balcony with table and chairs.
In an executive room I would expect a fridge and a safe . Ours had neither . The hairdrter was very poor and awkward to use .
The hotel has a spa and indoor pool . The staff in the spa are very helpful and welcoming .
This area is quite dated , the jacuzzi needs some tlc some tiles are missing around the outside.the pool is a nice size ,but I feel the whole area needs some up dating the glazing in this area needs some attention ,it is quite misty ,also the whole layout of the spa area is a bit odd . . You have to change then walk back through reception for access to the pool showers and steam room in your gown..
The hotel is about a 35 minute walk from st peters port harbour .there is a bus stop near the hotel for buses to the harbour or cobo bay . no91 /92 Vaux bus from the harbour terminal will take you on a tour of the whole island for just £1.00 ! Takes about 1hr30 . Amazing value .
The lounge is a nice area to sit in the evening . Breakfasts are nice with plenty of choice . Can't comment about the victor Hugo restaurant or the pavillion. as we didn't use either of these.
All the staff are very welcoming and helpful and a credit to the hotel.
It looks as though a lot of work is being carried out at the hotel . Which has been taken over by Hand picked hotels .
We enjoyed our stay , I would like to return when all the improvements have been carried out .......with the right improvements this very nice hotel could be a great hotel .

We stayed for two nights during the week in comfortable double room with a balcony. The room was clean and tidy. We had breakfast both mornings which had a very good selection. The hotel has very friendly and helpful staff. My partner had a conference in the hotel and I spent sometime in the spa having great value for money treatments. We used public transport to get to the hotel from the main port but there is parking at the hotel.

We recently stayed at this Hotel for a week after celebrating our Diamond Wedding. From the time we arrived to the time we left we found the Staff very helpful and obliging. Nothing was too much trouble and they were always on hand to give advice and recommendations. The bedroom was always cleaned very well, and the complementary bottled water much appreciated. The meals we had in the Hotel were of excellent quality and the waiters were very good. We found the Island bus service very good, with buses stopping almost outside the Hotel. I was glad we did not hire a car before arriving, as you could travel anywhere for £1. - even all round the Island. We would thoroughly recommend this Hotel. Just one minor thing. We did find it difficult to get into the bath to have a shower - it was rather high. But then we are 82!!! It was nice and quiet, which suited us fine.

I stayed here for a work trip and was looking forward to staying here as the reviews looked good and the facilities seemed ideal, plus it was only a 20 min walk to the town!

After leaving my house in Chester, North West England at 4:30am, I finally arrived at the hotel around 11am where I was then told I would need to wait for my room before I could check in as it wasn't ready yet.

Turns out my room wouldn't be ready for over an hour and a half! I ended up using the Spa changing facilities to get ready for the work event I was there for! This was less than Ideal!

I was also unable to order any food as I wasn't given any idea on how long it would be until my room would be available! I didn't want to order food to then have to rush eating it to get to my room and get ready!

This was the only problem with my stay!!! The rest of it was brilliant! The staff when I was eventually given my room key were apologetic and very polite and helpful during the rest of my time here! The room was large and had all the facilities I needed Including a lovely Espresso Machine that is far better than any hotel coffee I am use to and the Gym and pool were free to use for all guests!

The gym did get busy around 6ish when I was in there, and its only small so could get claustrophobic when more than 5 people are in there, but for a free gym, I couldn't complain. As I mentioned, its only small as well, so don't expect a huge free weight selection or lots of equipment, just had enough to be useful!

Overall I would happily stay here again! I would just request an early check in to save being stuck in "hotel limbo" for a couple of hours after arrival!
