Overall a lovely hotel but not so good if you have food allergies. I phoned ahead to see if I should bring my own gluton free bread but they insisted it was no problem for them to get it. After several days of no bread I finally found marks &Spencers had some. Also booked a 'secret escapes' holiday so not such a bargain as we had the views of the dustbins and ongoing refurbishments. As it was for our 46th weddings anniversary and a 70th birthday celebration we did have a lovely surprise though of 2 red roses on our pillows and a heart made of petals on the bed. Staff are so lovely especially the new manager in the Ocean restaurent . Their fish pie was the best I have ever tasted. I would love to go again but only if assured a room with a view! The cafe on the beach also had lovely meals.so relaxing sitting outside overlooking the beach.Well worth the walk down but only if you are fit as it seems twice as far climbing back up!

This is a wonderful hotel, a real star. All credit to Robert Steen and his staff for creating a warm, inviting and relaxing ambiance. We stayed three nights on there deal including flights and transfers. The accommodation was excellent and the food was even better!
If you want a relaxing break in a wonderful location then this hits the spot.

A really relaxing weekend. Full marks to Lucas who picked us up from the airport and then took us into St Peter Port after checking in. The room was lovely with a very hot shower (beware of the temp) but very powerful. An unusual touch was the decanter of sherry, bowl of fruit and chocolates. The indoor swimming pool was a little too warm but even so was relaxing. The waiters were efficient (almost too quick to take your plate at times) but they seemed to be chasing each other around with orders taken and then another coming to take it again. Breakfast again was confusing with coffee arriving twice and toast with the full Guernsey breakfast not arriving at all. However on the whole it is a lovely place to stay and a good weekend break.

Stayed here for 3 days in March this year. Couldn't fault it. Very friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable room with lovely views over the valley. Swimming pool was clean and warm. The restaurant was being refurbished as "Ocean" when we were there but it didn't affect us - in fact we were invited to the opening which was lovely. Food and restaurant service was very good. Lounges are very comfortable and relaxing

We have been to Guernsey a number of times and Fermain Valley would be our hotel of choice should we return.

Highly recommended

The Fermain Valley Hotel has won its place amongst my top ten hotels to return to - I almost hate writing this in case it is full when I want to return. In one word - staff! They were universally helpful and attentive. Staying here for the first time felt as if we had been regulars before. Led from the front by the very hands on general manager, Robert Steen, this hotel is an individual gem. If you like to be near to St Peter Port but in a lovely valley with superb [although at times challenging] walks including down to the cute bay with" foodie" beach café this is an excellent choice. As a break from mad city driving in England I persuaded my husband we could cope without a car. We did - using the local bus [stop near hotel ] - only £2 to go around the whole island or taxis. When it is free the hotel mini bus will drop you in the day time down into St Peter Port, just don't expect it to be on tap in the evenings, but a taxi was only £6 for the four of us to town for dinner.- [ In a four night stay we managed 7 different eateries!]
The public areas are a joy, well lit and comfortable lounges and even a small library complete with tourist information, - squashy sofas, those views across the bay and beautiful arrangements of fresh flowers - perfect for a coffee and chat to review the days activities. There is a separate bar and sitting area which also seemed popular for classic cream teas! I have to say this hotel, during our visit, feels more like an adults venue, - I did spot a box of games in one of the lounges but if I am honest I liked the lack of children running around.. There are glorious sun terraces as well as outdoor seating areas for the restaurants, including one by the pool. This is enclosed with full length opening glass doors for warmer days - quite small and the water was tropical on our visit - we tended to use it to swim and chat. There is a sauna which the staff will switch on for you on request - give it half an hour or so to warm up.
The two restaurants have now both been totally refurbished - the style for the ocean is classy and nautical and is also where breakfast is served. This was excellent - a vast choice and we ate our way through most of the options from asparagus omelettes, eggs benedict, kippers to the full Guernsey breakfast. For those who prefer continental there were plenty of choices , the most delicious yoghurt I have ever eaten croissants, cold meats and cheeses and cereals - including one amazing, presumably in house concoction. The evening menu is stylish, with beautifully presented and cooked food. We ate there our first night and the choices suited all our various tastes - mine are fish, fish and more fish! If I was to be at all critical I would say the portions could have been a little bit more generous - for example I had a delicious risotto but would have liked a tiny bit more!
The second restaurant, the Rock Garden, was only having its official launch on our last night. We were invited to this and I have to say if it had been open during our complete stay it would have been difficult to drag my husband elsewhere. As an avid carnivore the steaks in the restaurant will take a lot of beating. We tried mouth watering slices served on giant chips.

And so to describe the bedrooms. We had a Gold one because I wanted a view over the bay and the balcony to sit out on and enjoy it. standard rooms are silver, then gold and top grade[ and beautiful and spacious but mostly without a balcony], platinum. I can best describe our double bedroom as rather like a balcony cabin on a posh cruise ship. It was really quite small but for me perfectly formed. The personal touches like a decanter of sherry, fresh fruit and fudge on arrival was a lovely welcome. Toiletries, bath robes and slippers just added to my sense of wellbeing - yes I loved all the goodies. The toiletries in the bathroom were good quality and thank goodness they have the sense to give you one each of everything - my pet gripe is hotels that give you only one - so essentially you have to pack your own.- my friends are still laughing over the body buffers!!! No there is not a lot of space but we did have two easy chairs and a little table as well as the chairs and table on the balcony. The top floor has slightly smaller rooms but bigger balconies. The only puzzle was the sound of scraping furniture in the the mornings - it sounded at times if the removals were in above us - early departures I think - I suggested they got some rubber ferrules for the balcony furniture. The bed linen was immaculate and fresh and crisp - although we would have liked a slightly wider duvet as we are not small people. Both my friend and myself moved things around in our room - ie the kettle was in the wardrobe on a shelf - there was a generous box of teas, coffees, hot chocolate and biscuits - plus a fridge in the room that was silent!!! They had just installed satellite and we never found out how to put on the television - I am sure they will provide instructions -there is WIfi but I didn't take my laptop. Unfortunately due to misuse the computers in the lounge area have had to be removed! The bathroom complete with heated towel rail was excellent with bath and shower over. As there is no air conditioning [peace!} probably in high summer a fan will be needed on hot days.
The Venue - at the top of the fabulous gardens up nearest to the road this is a separate building - classy place for an event like a wedding and there are separate bedrooms too.. For us our final treat was to use the private cinema up there to watch a film all of us had missed when it was released - a real sense of luxury - I understand they do special nights there complete with a meal and popcorn!
Overall we made ourselves very comfortable for our four night break - we booked an inclusive package of flights from Southampton, accommodation and dinner on the first night via the hotel's own telephone booking service and an extremely helpful lady.. On request the hotel will meet you from the airport and take you back when you leave. Return we most definitely will.

This spa hotel in a secluded valley with a sea view has a fresh contemporary atmosphere and period furniture in the library and lounges in original part of the building. The staff were a happy and welcoming team and the swim and sauna before dinner rounded off the day.
The room in the Silver suite, above the conference facility just up the hill, was spacious, clean and comfortable and had a marvellous view down the valley to the sea.
The set menu had 3 good choices, which were attractively presented, for each of three courses; having booked half board for 4 days, we were disappointed to have the same set menu each day. We were offered a discount on the a la carte, and the prices were reasonable.
There are a brisk 40 minute walk along the coast path to St Peter Port and magnificent runs either way although the sea temperature in April trumped the inviting waters in the Bay when considering a swim before breakfast.

OK, age has relaxed me a bit over the last few years and I was very happy to stay in this hotel again after a four year absence (and trying out self-catering for a change). After decades of dreaming about staying in one of the rooms with a balcony, I finally managed to book one and am so pleased I did - stepping out onto the balcony was unforgettable - views down the valley, birds singing in the trees, a gentle sea breeze - it is enchanting! The hotel is beautifully decorated, has a lovely atmosphere and well worth it's star rating. I have no complaints about the staff, they are efficient and smart and the person who serviced our room each day was charming and very kind in asking what sort of fruit we would like in our room.
The room itself was immaculate and the decor classically modern with a decanter of sherry on hand and fresh fruit each day. Although the room could get rather warm, opening the doors to the balcony helped. The bathroom was clean and functional and the shower was fine.
Food-wise, the chefs are excellent and the food absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the fish dishes. I would like to say that during dinner, I would recommend the hotel add on a couple of extra members of staff to serve and take orders - it cannot be a pleasant experience for the staff to have to rush around like that with two demanding guests like us - could the manager allow a couple more people to be on hand in the restaurant please?
My only other concern would be to ensure that the terrace outside the swimming pool is kept nice and tidy, loungers straightened, cushions put in place.
I HIGHLY recommend the Fermain Valley Hotel for practically anyone, especially couples on a romantic holiday, honeymoon or anniversary.

We have just spent 4 nights at this hotel for my nephew's wedding (their reception was held in The Venue). The hotel and Venue were excellent. Robert Steen and his staff could not have been more attentive and made our stay even more enjoyable. Excellent food, beautiful grounds and views. Well equipped and very comfortable rooms. Complimentary use of the hotel's mini buses was a great bonus too (Lucas was our wonderful driver)
I would recommend this hotel!

Service, location, overall quality are recommended. There are however, the following areas that let the hotel down. The breakfast menu is good but the staff seem over worked or more likely poorly supervised. We found ourselves constantly having to ask for items such as crockery, sauces etc items that should be continually re-stocked. To run out of white bread as they did one breakfast time is poor. The Steakhouse Restaurant was disappointing firstly the level of service was not good but secondly the quality of meat poor. One steak was simply not fit for consumption when we complained a very lame excuse was given and we had to refuse to pay for it, this offer should have been made by the staff. In this restaurant as with many others chefs avoid confrontation we suggest in future when there is such a complaint the chef meets the customer not shift responsibility to waiting staff. Overall the above should not detract from the fact that this is a very good hotel that we would recommend.

We stayed six nights here, whilst attending a family wedding and were delighted to find the best customer service we have ever had. All staff were very helpful, cheerful, friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. Robert Steen, the general manager, in particular was courteous, helpful and efficient. We appreciated the tour of the hotel when we arrived, the use of the cinema, excellent food and free shuttle service. Our gold room had a fantastic view with balcony, complimentary fruit, water & sherry in the room. We will definitely stay again.
