Stayed 30 July - 2 Aug 2011 with a good deal through the tourist board. Lovely old building, fantastic service by all staff (some more experienced than others ... but ALL seemed happy and did their very best). A credit to the hotel, especially the concierge who was most helpful. Received a birthday tray in the room which had a beautiful cake and card... nice touch. Very happy with the quality of food, at breakfast and at the Governor's Restaurant. Had a couple of treatments at the Spa which again were good. Small but well equipped gym and a good instructor for the early morning class. However, I do think the bedrooms in the lower price bracket are just too small, although I agree they are beautifully presented. We had to constantly be aware of where we were treading so not to bang legs on furniture ..... and when you're use to a large bed.... well just be prepared to get very cosy with your partner for the whole night as they must only be 4ft 6' max! Luckily we had a nice sea view from our window, some rooms at the back of the hotel are not so lucky. I know you need to have certain things in the room to get a certain star rating, but it really is too much of a squash. Good heated pool which also incorporated a shallow pool for the little ones. Very short walk to the centre of town but it's uphill on the way back! Seemed to be some nice restaurants around the area, we tried the Thai on the harbour front and Pier 17, happy with both. Would definitely recommend and return but would upgrade to a bigger room.

We chose this hotel on the strength of other positive reviews on Tripadvisor and were not disappointed! We went to celebrate an important anniversary and were overwhelmed by the quality of service; the beautiful food and wines; the general ambiance of elegant luxury.
We were in a King Seaview rom, which was very comfortable, but if you want a balcony, you need to say so on booking; we didn't realise this and were a little disappointed that we had instead a much more conventional room with a rather interrupted sea view. Reception took this on board and resolved instantly to ensure that the website makes this clear in future. Nonetheless, we were happy in our room, which was well appointed with a splendid bed, a shower that worked impeccably and a BATH! (So many hotels fail to realise how relaxing a warm bath is after a long day's walking.) We ate largely in the Brasserie, which served very good food and was full of friendly staff from a staggering and fascinating range of countries. Monique, in charge of what was going on, was splendidly efficient and amiable.
We had booked the Gourmet experience package, which included trips to and from the airport and a 7 course meal with wine, each course and wine introduced by the sommelier and the charming waitress. Do try this if you can!
There was nothing that was too much trouble for this hotel: they genuinely want you to have a lovely time with them, not just going through the motions, but actually doing everything they possibly can to ensure it. Book now!

Spent 5 nights here for my husband's 60th birthday - amazing!
Service was great, staff very friendly & attentive, cake left in our room on my husband's birthday which was a nice touch. Couldn't have been better, really enjoyed it and made his birthday even more special.

Six family members from England and Australia met for 3 days in Guernsey. We selected the Old Government House Hotel due to its character, history and its location.

The room overlooking the village, the harbour and the nearby islands was a picture and the hotel style, amenities, gardens and the well protected outdoor heated swimming pool added to the ambiance.

The hotel is located just a short stroll to the village, the harbour and the must visit Castle.

We ate in the Brasserie the first night with friends from Guernsey and it was a memorable evening with excellent food and a comprehensive wine list. On our last night we dined in the Governor's restaurant at the hotel and decided to have the degustation menu. This was a great decision as the 7 courses were of world standard and the 7 matching international wines were perfectly selected.

The staff and the service levels were excellent and we felt we were welcomed guests.

We will return and include a visit to adjoining Hern and Sark islands.

My husband and myself spent a wonderful weekend here in June and cannot recommend it enough. I don't generally enjoy staying in hotels because I have spent a lot of time in them for business travel, but The Old Government House felt completely different - we were treated like VIPs from the moment we arrived and the hotel had an incredibly relaxing vibe. It's a very old-fashioned hotel with old-fashioned manners to match! Every single member of staff was extremely polite and helpful.

Our room was very comfy, with different types of pillows available on request. When the management heard that we were here on our honeymoon we found a bottle of champagne left in our room, which was a nice touch. We ate at the restaurant every night, mainly because we found the food so good on the first night.

We visited the spa a couple of times and I had a manicure and facial, both of which were expertly done.

I'd love to return here, maybe when the weather is hotter because sadly it rained so we didn't get to laze around by the pool.

We stayed at the Old Government House Hotel for a friend's wedding in August 2011. The hotel was gorgeous with great amenities. We stayed in a refurbished room with a view over the harbor. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast included in our room rate was delicious. Our only complaint is that unfortunately the air conditioner in our room was broken - thankfully leaving the balcony door open allowed for a nice sea breeze.

We recently spent 7 nights at OGH and the hotel excellent in all respects. All the staff couldn't have been friendlier & helpfull. The room & bathroom were immaculate, with a stunning view over the harbour. Best breakfasts ever. We hope to return.

We had the pleasure of attending a friend's wedding at the OGH recently. We decided to stay in the hotel with our baby daughter for convenience and I'm so glad we did. Although it wasn't the cheapest option, the hotel is absolutely beautiful and the service is truly outstanding. I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere else in the world where the staff are so attentive - nothing is too much trouble. The little touches, like the turndown service, newspaper, gorgeous toiletries, yummy biscuits and chocs on the pillows at night, made the whole experience feel more luxurious. The only slight negatives were we found the hotel had a lot of stairs which made it difficult with a pram and also our room was a bit too small to comfortably accommodate a travel cot. If we return we'd try and ensure we were placed in a larger room, ideally on the ground floor. Nevertheless, if you're thinking of visiting Guernsey, make sure you stay here. You won't be disappointed!

We had a lovely room here- a suite looking over the pool and down to the harbour. Had a taster menu in the restaurant which was fun and the hotel really quickly sorted a hire car for us one morning. We were disappointed in the spa- we went to have a jacuzzi one day before dinner and were told it was all shut early as it was a weekend! And it was near impossible to have a slot for any treatment although we were there for six nights in total- we got the impression it was a lovely hotel with an independent spa next door. And if you wanted to use the pool then a sauna you would have to traipse through the hotel bar and restaurant to get there.
