Winter Wonderland
  • Les Issues
Celebrating 25 years and millions of coloured lights, this year’s Winter Wonderland is set to be the island’s best Christmas event ever.

Taking place on December 1st, for one night only from 5.30pm – 8.30pm at the home of Peter and Frankie Bachman in Rue des Issues, St. Saviour, visitors will be transported by bus from the nearby Specsavers offices at La Villiaze and the car park at Le Rondin School, to a whole other world of wonder.

A laser show has been added to the line-up of illuminated attractions this year, to provide a new level of enjoyment for visitors. The magical elf-trail can’t fail to enchant the smaller children. But of course, the star of the show is Father Christmas himself, who will put in a very special appearance.

‘Having fun for a good cause makes everyone feel like a winner’ says Jon Robilliard of the Lions Club of Guernsey. ‘Adults who were small children when the event first launched back in 1996 are now bringing their children to enjoy the tradition. It’s a very special evening for everyone.’

‘The range of local projects this event has supported over the last 25 years have been hugely diverse, as well as making a major contribution to the health of islanders’ says Bryan Lean of Cancer Research UK. ‘More than £250, 000 has been raised by both charities in that time, all of which has been used to improve lives across the Bailiwick. By supporting the Lions Club of Guernsey and Cancer Research UK, visitors to the event have made a real difference’.

Dame Mary Perkins says, ‘we so look forward to sponsoring this event each year. In addition to providing funds, many of our staff and family members throw themselves into the spirit of things by volunteering to dress up as elves and acting as guides for the evening. It’s not every day you see serious business people in striped tights and red velvet!’ She adds.

With plenty of hot food and drink available on the night, the whole family can make an evening of it and really start the build up to Christmas in the most festive, exciting way.

Tickets go on sale this week, from November 8th. Adults cost £6 while children aged 3-12 years are £2.
