This Heritage Afternoon Tea takes place at the Duke of Richmond on Sunday 15th April 2018 from 2.00pm until 4.00pm.
Gillian Mawson, a researcher from Stockport, will be talking about the lives of those thousands of evacuees who arrived in northern English towns such as Stockport in June 1940. She will read out quotations from some of the evacuees she has interviewed, and show over 50 wartime evacuee photographs.
She will also describe how her research into the Guernsey evacuation changed her life, and led her to organise Channel Island evacuee reunions. She will also explain why, in 2008, she set up a community group in the Stockport area for Guernsey child evacuees who did not return home in 1945. Her group shares the Guernsey story with the Greater Manchester community, including schools. The Priaulx Library will also be there to share a wartime story and to share copies of wartime papers and documents.
