This June, Take a Left Productions will bring Claude-Michel Schönberg, the legendary composer of Les Misérables, to the island where Victor Hugo wrote his classic novel.

Together with lyricist Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schönberg created two of the greatest international successes in the history of musical theatre, Les Misérables and Miss Saigon.

In a rare public encounter, and a 2019 exclusive to Guernsey, Claude-Michel Schönberg will sit down with writer and broadcaster Edward Seckerson to discuss his journey from songwriter, record producer and singer (including his French number one hit song Le Premier Pas) to the stages of the West End and Broadway on Saturday 29 June 2019 from 8pm at St James.

Illustrated with performances from West End stars Christine Allado (Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds in Hamilton; Andrea Bocelli’s guest vocalist on recent arena tours) and Daniel Koek (Jean Valjean in Les Misérables), as well as M Schönberg’s treasured recordings, do not miss your chance to spend an evening with one of musical theatre’s true legends.

He will discuss how his “Rock Opera” La Révolution Française set him on the path to Victor Hugo and Les Misérables and how a single photograph from the archives of the Vietnam War prompted a dramatic new take on Puccini’s Madam Butterfly, as well as the elusive process which triggers the melodies, his love of opera and ballet, and his continuing quest to breathe new life into perhaps his greatest score, Martin Guerre.

The event forms part of the Victor Hugo in Guernsey Conference 2019 and M Schönberg is very generously donating his fee to The Victor Hugo in Guernsey Society.
