The Nursery
Fully equipped to take care of children of all ages, Little Learners' Day Nursery is a bright, welcoming environment with creative play equipment so that your child can develop their imagination and skills, while socialising with other children. With well-lit spacious rooms and soft play flooring, secured with child safety gates, the whole nursery is a safe space. The nursery has a reading and rest area, a cloakroom, kitchen facilities, child-friendly toilet facilities, and colourful handmade furniture throughout. Free breakfast and snacks are provided.
Little Learners' Day Nursery is open 7.00am until 5.30pm, Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays, and has visitor parking right outside for drop-offs and collections. 15-hour spaces for 3 to 4 year olds funded by States of Guernsey are fully supported, plus there are generous discounted rates for children who repeatedly attend Little Learners for full days.
The Activities
Children attending Little Learners' Day Nursery will be able to partake in a wide range of supervised activities. All children require a good balance of work, play and rest in a safe environment, so that is exactly what Little Learners offers. With a structured routine to help children settle in quickly, each child is nevertheless treated as an individual as we know that children learn at different speeds and have varied needs.
Children are closely monitored by staff, who will try to set them exciting new challenges to keep them engaged. Little Learners follows the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and ECERS (Early Child Development Rating Scales). Through play and activities children will learn about the seasons, holiday festivals, telling the time, days of the week, colours, shapes, and of course numeracy and literacy once they are ready.
The nursery has a wide selection of toys and games, from building blocks, jigsaws and character toys - that encourage fine motor skills and problem solving - through to ride-on toys and play houses for the children who prefer more physical and large scale play that develops spacial awareness and control. The nursery also has a water and sand play area, an outside play area, and use of the church garden for outdoor play.
With a large focus on creativity, the nursery's fully stocked arts and crafts area enables the children to pursue painting, drawing, collage, colouring and sponge painting. Every year the children's artwork gets entered into the Guernsey Eisteddfod. Group activities are also encouraged daily as the children will be brought together for singing and playing instruments, storytelling and board games.
When the weather allows there are also supervised trips and outings, such as visits to the park for picnics and games.
The Staff
Joint Owner Sue Savident has many years experience working in business, sales, social care and health care. Her co-owner / co-Manager Heidi Garnham and Manager Donna Kinney both have a Level 5 Diploma in Childcare. Their Deputy Manager is Kelly Eborall.
With a wide range of experience and skill sets, the staff attend a minimum of five external courses each year, and undergo monthly in-house training, to keep their professional qualifications relevant and up to date. All of the staff are fully trained in first aid in case a child manages to injure themselves. Parents will be contacted immediately in the case their child is injured or becomes unwell.
