Hope For A Child raises awareness and funding to help support orphans and vulnerable children in many countries around the world with current projects aiming to help children in Uganda and South Africa.
We are staffed in Guernsey and at our other offices by a talented and committed team who are mostly volunteers enabling us to keep costs down whilst expanding our operations as far as possible.
Hope for a Child was established in 2007 by Roy and Sue Herring after they were inspired by visits to a Chinese orphanage. These life-changing experiences made them realise that children were better off being cared for within their own extended families and communities if at all possible. The couple then decided that, due to the huge HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa, this would be the best place for the new charity to start work.
Hope for a Child relies on the support of people like you to sponsor workers through their 'Sponsor a Worker' scheme. These are people who work for key community organizations in Africa, in the areas of either Income, Well-being, Health or Nutrition. Working with vulnerable children, their extended families and communities, these workers help whole communities rise from poverty through effective Income schemes and thus help support children and families devastated by HIV/AIDS in Africa.
In 2010 the estimated number of children orphaned by causes including famine, disease, conflict and HIV/AIDS will exceed 50 million in sub-Saharan Africa. Hope for a Child aim to provide children like these with hope. The charity believe that they will be able to help 1 million vulnerable and orphaned children in the region by 2018 by working in partnership with their extended families, and communities.
Ambitious? Yes.
Impossible? They don't think so.
