LIfe's a Beach

Having enjoyed a lovely morning in St Andrews I'm all inspired about our amazing beaches in Fife!  We are very fortunate to live close to many beautiful beaches and coastal paths yet I imagine many, like myself, don't find the time to visit often.  Maybe that's a good thing though, would we still get that hit of calm when looking out over the sea or be invigorated when sea breezes gale force winds hit us if we could experience it every day?  Maybe some day I'll get a little cottage by the sea and be able to confirm whether beach life gets a little mundane when it's there everyday ... watch this space!

Whether you love the beach like me or whether you prefer other terrain there's still no denying that Fife's beaches rival the best of them, the West Sands today was just stunning, the tide was far out and the dogs had a great time.  All being well there should be a photo attached to this blog post.  My personal favourite however is Elie, perhaps it's the nostalgia of childhood day trips but I feel Elie is truely special.  Elie is of course at it's most popular in the height of the summer tourist season but I am happy to visit Elie at any time of the year, especially now that they have a lovely cafe to provide sustenance in the form of coffee and cake to keep you warm.  Perhaps one of Elie's hidden gems is Ruby Bay, a sheltered, sandy beach, the walk to the nearby lighthouse is always a hit with my boys, aged 9 and 13.  Watersports are popular at Elie and well provided for.  Of course once everyone is exhausted and hungry there is a nice selection of restaurants in the town.  A great day out!

The dogs are tired and we are weather beaten but it's been lovely, perhaps Silver Sands in Aberdour next time?
