All the fun of the fair as the Links Market makes a welcome return to Kirkcaldy's Esplanade!

I was fascinated when researching the history of the Links Market, the official records of the Market date back to 1304 however the Market was very different back then, the Links wasn't a thrill seeker's paradise but rather a market for traders, farmers and craftsmen.  In 1305 permission was granted to hold an annual fair at Easter time which attracted performers, jugglers, acrobats, musicians etc and along with them came simple fairground rides, the forerunners to what we see today at the Links.  In the 1800's steam power became available and was used to create faster and more exciting fairground rides.

Today the Link's Market holds an important place in the showmen's calendar, it's the first annual fair of the year in Scotland and is often the place that new fairground rides make their debut.

The market is on from 18th April to 23rd April 2012 and is open the following hours:-

Wed 2pm to 10.30pm

Thurs 12.30pm to 10.30pm

Fri 12.30pm to 11pm

Sat 12.30pm to 11pm

Sun 1pm to 9pm

Mon 12.30pm to 10pm

Put the dates in your diary, it's sure to be a good day out!
