Families for Children is a vibrant charity and voluntary adoption agency. Operating in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset they find adoptive parents for some of the most vulnerable children across the UK.
Adoption is a way of providing the security of a new family when it is not possible for a child to be brought up by his/her own parent(s) or birth family. At any one time there are several thousand children in local authority foster care who are waiting for their ‘forever’ family. As well as finding loving adoptive families for these children Families for Children is committed to providing adoption support to them and their families for as long as, it is needed. This work is the main focus of their fundraising activities.
Families for Children place around 40 children each year with adoptive families and are supporting around 100-120 families for the adoption support activities at any one time across the South West and without the support of local business and individuals this would not be possible.
As a friendly, local charity without huge resources and budgets, Families for Children look to raise awareness through the local community. They are lucky to have the support of a number of well-known celebrity patrons including Michelin Chef Michael Caines MBE, children’s author David Lawrence Jones, popular local broadcaster Judi Spiers, journalist & broadcaster Mark Tyler, Downton Abbey creator & actor Lord Julian Fellowes and his wife Lady Emma Fellowes. Both Michael and Mark were adopted through Families for Children. These patrons play an active role in many of their charity events as well as helping spread the word about their work and the need for adopters to come forward.
If you would have ever considered adoption or you would like to find out how you can help fundraise they would love to hear from you.
