Each week, in the Yarty Ward at the RD&E, around 600 patients are treated for a blood cancer or blood disorder. Patients treated at the Yarty Ward will come from North, Mid and East Devon and often need to come to hospital regularly for years. Whilst the excellent NHS team take care of the patients’ medical needs, ELF is there to lighten the load for patients and their families in terms of practical and emotional support.

Every year ELF:

  • Takes around 2,500 patients from East, North and Mid Devon to and from their hospital appointments at the Yarty Ward in Exeter; and to Derriford and Bristol for other treatments.
  • Welcomes families to stay at its flat opposite the hospital enabling them to stay close to loved ones in hospital.
  • Enables around 75 patients to access grants, welfare benefits and debt management services in partnership with CAB.
  • Funds a counsellor who supports patients and their families.
  • Funds a Clinical Nurse Specialist who provides a vital link between the patient and the medical team.
  • Funds equipment within the hospital such exercise bikes, e-readers and medical equipment.

In 2017, we are launching our new “ELF at Home” service to support patients in their homes who feel isolated because of their condition.

Here at ELF, we want to work with our corporate partners to ensure they are benefitting from a relationship with ELF.  We ascertain how we can help to achieve the company’s objectives – be it increased publicity, driving sales, or staff engagement etc. and work together with the partner organisation to make the most of all activities.  Why not get involved:

CHALLENGE YOURSELVES and get everyone involved in the fundraising. With Tozers, in 2016, we set each team a challenge of who could raise the most with an initial investment of £50.  Each team used their £50 in a different way and a prize was given for the team raising the most money.  This ensured that everyone worked as a team and found innovative ways to fundraise.

RUN/CYCLE/SWIM/ WALK/JUMP OUT OF A PLANE for ELF and we will provide T shirts and an event pack.  Take part in The Great West Run, Dawlish Triathlon, Dartmoor Classic or even a full marathon!

FUNDRAISING IN THE OFFICE will be supported fully by the ELF team and we can help with ideas, event planning, provide collecting tins, balloons, bunting, T shirts and advice to make your fundraising succeed.  Some ideas that are very easy to organise are to set up a tuck shop, hold a quiz evening, hold a bring and share lunch, have a table top sale or “clothes swish”. We would be happy to provide further ideas.

THE ELF BALL will be held on 22nd September and promises to be another glamorous, spectacular event. We hope that you would like to become involved.
