Extract from an e mail to The Best of Evesham

One reason for visiting the Evesham area this month was the fact that I met a young couple that was attending the Winter Paralympics in Vancouver, Canada. I was driving a specially equipped motor coach for several weeks transporting passengers from Vancouver airport to Whistler, 100 km north.

In the early hours of the morning I picked up a young wheelchair bound man from Cheltenham and his girlfriend from Evesham and learned during the 2.5 hour coachride that the young male had become paralyside from the waist down in a car crash four years ago.

He now has passed his pilot's licence on light aircraft and is planning to form Britain's first aviation school at Cheltenham to enable disabled persons to fly light aircraft. Bearing in mind, pilots' have to have full control of rudders from the feet, this young man is opening up the world for persons to fly these planes with hand controls alone. His need to help similar persons with disabilities in such a positive way, is an inspiration to his character, and of the love he shares with the girl from Evesham. I do not know their names. - John Roberts, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
