Possible scam hotels and restaurants beware

This is an extract from an e mail sent to best of evesham from a local hotel:
We have recently been approached with what looks like a scam.

An Engr.Brian Williams who claims to be a part of Weatherford International Oil Services requested that we book in 15 of his workers for meals on 3 evenings w/c 15th March 2010.

However, he will not be present and says he will pay us by Credit card in advance, not only for the meals and drinks, but also £3000 for us to pay on his behalf to a car hire company!?

It all looked a bit suspicious, and Weatherford International Oil Services believe this approach to be a fraud, and have advised us not to proceed with this request.

I have contacted Cheltenham Police, who will take no action as no crime has yet been committed, but as this seems to be a scam I wanted to let you know about it in order for you to inform anyone else who may be approached or who needs to be aware.
Please forward this message to interested parties
