A MULTI-MILLION pound outdoor activity centre looks set to be built on the outskirts of Evesham after councillors gave it the thumbs up.
Eagle One, owners of Evesham Country Park, wants to build a series of themed zones based on nature, fun and learning, angling, lifestyle and leisure.
These will include a new wetland nature reserve, nature trails and cycle paths through the Twyford park, better angling facilities on both the lake and the river, timber holiday lodges and a visitor centre.
There will also be improvements to pedestrian, cycle and river links to the town centre with the total cost estimated at £20million.
At a meeting of Wychavon District Council's development control committee on Thursday (December 9) councillors approved the application in principle subject to approval by the Government Office for the West Midlands.
The proposals also include a heritage orchard and setting up a community orchard scheme and giving Vale schools and colleges the opportunity to take part in activities.
Simon Tothill of Eagle One said throughout the park there would be an emphasis on landscape and ecology and food and learning.
"We are delighted to have secured planning consent for these improvements to the Country Park and would like to thank the many local organisations and members of the public whose ideas and views helped to shape the plans," he said.
"We believe that the proposals, which involve investment of approximately £20 million, will improve and extend what’s currently on offer and create a major tourism hub bringing new visitors to both the Park, Evesham town centre and the wider area.
"Our project will also create better cycle, bus and water links between the Park and Evesham Town Centre and improve the overall experience for visitors and tourists coming to the area."
