Press Release

‘Too Windy for Balloons at this weekend’s Evesham Balloon Festival!’

The forecast of wind gusts of up to 30mph means that the organisers of Evesham’s Balloon Festival have regretfully had to withdraw all hot air balloon related activity from this year’s event taking place in Evesham at Crown Meadow on Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th June.

However, we are pleased to announce that an event will go ahead and there will be stunt kite flying displays, live music, classic cars, fun fair rides and a wide variety of stalls and attractions throughout the weekend.

Weather permitting the grand fireworks finale will complete Saturday’s entertainment at 10.30pm and the Asparagus Family Fun Run will take place on Sunday in Crown Meadow from 11.30am in aid of the County Air Ambulance.

Conscious that visitors may not be aware of the enforced changes, Wychavon District Council has agreed to wave parking charges on Corporation Meadow for this event.

Kevin Jones of Evesham Hot Air Fest says “It was an extremely difficult decision, especially as we had received interest from a record number of hot air balloon crews for this year’s event. However, the safety of the public and crews must come first and the predicted wind speeds are way beyond the safe operational limits of hot air balloons.”

Shawn Riley of Evesham Market Town Partnership says “We will continue to monitor the forecasts and adapt the event to suit the conditions. We have a spectacular programme of fun and thrills lined up which together with free parking in Corporation Meadow offers an exciting weekend of entertainment at extremely good value.”
