Princess Alice Hospice’s Celebrity Golf Day in association with The Berkeley Group Ltd was STRICTLY fantastic as Len Goodman showed fancy golf skills as well as footwork to be crowned Top Celebrity Player at Burhill Golf Club on Wednesday 15 June at the flagship event, he beat fellow Strictly come Dancing star Anton Du Beke into second place.

BBC commentator and long term Hospice supporter John Inverdale hosted the flagship event of the charity’s 25th anniversary celebrations and was joined by fellow rugby player Tim Stimpson, cricketer Geoff Arnold, comedian Bobby Davro, ITV’s face of football Clive Tyldesley, DJ Spoony and the strictly stars. Golfers enjoyed a welcome breakfast, 18 holes on the beautiful new course  and the chance to win a BMW with a ‘hole in one’ competition, some came close but the car went unclaimed and Coopers, Cobham took it back to the showroom, maybe next year someone will succeed.

The highly competitive rounds of golf were followed by the prize giving that saw BDO LLP the victors with an impressive team score of 91, closely followed by ING and their celebrity player Len Goodman on 89. The evening continued with a gourmet BBQ with live entertainment courtesy of the Nigel Bagge band. A successful auction saw Quarter final tickets at Wimbledon donated by CHP Consulting, a second pair of Centre Court tickets generously donated by John Inverdale, a golfing holiday in a luxury villa in Portugal and a limited edition Ryder Cup 2010 golf bag snapped up by eager supporters.

Julie Thomas, Head of supporter Development and 25th Anniversary said:

‘The charity’s 25th anniversary celebrations are now in full swing and the wonderful golf event raised £16,000. It was great to have the support of many local businesses and specifically the financial support of our headline sponsors the Berkeley Group Ltd.’

‘We are grateful to all the celebrities who have given up their time and to John Inverdale for his support of the event from its very conception, he hosted the initial corporate breakfast and thanks to him, our volunteers and the wonderful team at Burhill Golf Club we are closer to the aim of creating a patient focused therapeutic and spiritual care garden, this innovative and ambitious project will allow the Hospice to provide care beyond the building’.
