Night of Neon at Princess Alice Hospice’s 80s Midnight Walk

This Saturday saw the streets of Esher, Walton on Thames and Hampton Court filled with those with a fashion flashback as hundreds of walkers got inspired by the 80s for the Princess Alice Hospice 25th anniversary Midnight Walk.

The rain throughout the day did not hamper the hard work of the events team as they set up signs and transported hundreds of goody bags, the weather during the day certainly did not dampen the spirits of the walkers on the 9 or 13.5 routes. They arrived in fine form with smiles, the weather improved dramatically with not a spot of rain during the event.

From the warm up sessions at Xcel Centre, Walton on Thames, to the celebrations at the end everything had a 80s and silver theme. Some participants sported flashing headbands whilst others really went to town with a totally retro outfit. The team is keen to find out who the mystery walker in a MANKINI is. Men, women and children made this a great event; this really was a walk for the whole family.

The walk is a poignant way for many Hospice supporters to remember their loved ones, all walkers had a dedication card that they write special messages on and pin to their clothes. There was also an opportunity to write on tags for the special balloon release at midnight.

Chris Crooker, Event Fundraiser said:

‘Each walker who joined us this year will make a difference and together will help us to support patients throughout surrey, south west London and Middlesex, it costs over £7 million a year to provide our services free of charge, so now that they have completed their physical challenge we now need our walkers to complete their fundraising challenge and help us towards our target’

Everyone who secures £250 or more in sponsorship will receive a limited edition 25th anniversary t-shirt. Some walkers have raised hundreds of pounds and a few have already exceeded the £1,000 mark. Together the walkers can really make a difference.

Princess Alice Hospice would like to thank all local residents for their support and cooperation, the brave walkers, dedicated volunteers and the generous companies who helped to make the event such a success.
