Princess Alice Hospice covers a large area across Surrey, south west London and Middlesex and the network of fundraising support is local, regional, national and even international. Julian Wallace, a Singapore based solicitor, has recently completed a 250km foot race across the deserts of Jordan in aid of the charity that provided support to his father-in-law.

The challenge Julian set for himself, was a difficult one, by taking part in ‘Racing the Planet – Jordan’, not only did he have to cover a 250km foot race across the deserts of Jordan set over 6 stages, he also had to carry all his equipment and food needed for the entire race! Julian attempted one of these races in Namibia in 2009; unfortunately an injury prevented him from finishing. He did however complete over 180km of the race.

Julian said: ‘18 months ago my father-in-law, Les, died from a brain tumour. After a sudden collapse in September 2010, he sadly died just 3 months later. His rapid deterioration and passing away was devastating for the family. The last 10 days of his life were spent at the Princess Alice Hospice where the care and support provided both to Les and the family was amazing’.

‘Princess Alice Hospice provides free care and support for terminal patients and their families. The staff members at Princess Alice Hospice are special people. They provide first class care to all their patients as well as offering counselling to the families in preparation for bereavement, there are hundreds of volunteers at the Hospice giving up their time for free to help others. Princess Alice Hospice needs and deserves our support.’

It seems that the whole family are keen to complete sporting challenges and raise money with Julian’s wife, Julia participating in a mini triathlon on May 6. To support Julian and Julia’s fundraising efforts you can visit www.justgiving.com/julianwallace He has already raised £6,000. This figure could fund sixty visits to patients’ homes from our community Princess Alice Hospice nurses. Our clinical nurse specialists provide vital care and advice to patients and their families.

If running through a desert is too much for you, why not consider our Midnight Pyjama Walk in September and our hugely popular Santa Fun Runs later in the year, please contact 01372 461869 or events@pah.org.uk
