The games will be held on the 15th and 16th June at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford and the Council is calling on young people between the ages of 7 and 16 to take part.

In April, free trials and coaching sessions will take place to choose the Epsom and Ewell squad.

The squad will then represent the Borough at the highly prestigious sporting event, competing against 10 other Surrey Boroughs and Districts.

In 2012 around 200 young people were picked to represent the Borough and compete in sports like cricket, hockey and badminton.

Councillor Jan Mason, Chairman of the Leisure committee, said: "Last year, the Epsom & Ewell squad came away with the best ever medal haul and came out overall sixth out of the 11 Surrey Boroughs and Districts, entering teams in 13 different sports."

"The P&G Surrey Youth Games is a great opportunity for young people to try a new sport, or to improve their skills by taking part in high quality free coaching sessions. It is a great weekend for everyone and the young people really enjoy themselves, make new friends and get to try a sport that they may not have had a go at before."

Qualified coaches will run all sports and the majority have direct links with local clubs' junior sections, hopefully leading to more young people joining local sports clubs.

To represent Epsom & Ewell at the P&G Surrey Youth Games, entrants must either live in or go to school in the Borough and must be of sub-county level.

Interested young people can register online from Monday 25th February at www.epsom-ewell.gov.uk/surreyyouthgames.
