Local health experts at NHS Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group are encouraging people to add an extra festive task to their list this year – checking they’ve got enough supplies of any medications they might need for the Christmas period.

With three Bank Holidays on the horizon, the CCG is encouraging people to check they’ve requested repeat prescriptions in plenty of time to pick them up before GP practices and some pharmacies close for the festive break.

Andreas Pitsiaeli, Clinical Director for Medicines Management at Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “With the excitement of preparing for Christmas, it’s easy to forget about checking to see if you have enough medication. It’s always good to be well prepared so we’re encouraging anyone who might be at risk of running out of prescription medication over Christmas and the New Year to check they’ve ordered any repeat prescriptions early, so everyone can enjoy Christmas.”

If you do need a pharmacy over Christmas and the New Year, a list of opening times and contact details is available on the CCG’s website so you can find services in your area www.surreydownsccg.nhs.uk/christmas.

Pharmacists are trained to give health advice and can help if your GP practice is closed. You can also call 111, the NHS non-emergency number which is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (calls are free from landlines and mobile phones). In a health emergency you should call 999.
