The Surrey Stage of The Tour of Britain 2013 will take place at Epsom Downs Racecourse on Saturday 21 September around midday and will make its way through Epsom. The route of the Tour of Britain as it traverses the Borough has been formally announced.
Starting on Grandstand Road the cyclists will ride down Longdown Lane South, College Road, Alexandra Road, Upper High Street, High Street, Ashley Road, Ashley Avenue, South Street and Dorking Road. Once the other side of Epsom Common the race proceeds through Ashtead on the way to Leatherhead.
Councillor Jan Mason, Chairman of the Leisure Committee said:
"This is the first time the Borough is hosting The Tour of Britain which is expected to draw huge numbers and is a great showcase for the Borough.
"It is a fantastic opportunity for residents to get involved and be part of a memorable event that will I'm sure leave a lasting legacy for the Borough. Don't miss out! Register to volunteer for The Tour of Britain in Epsom."
We’re looking for interested and enthusiastic volunteers to help with the smooth running of this event, including:
• marshalling and crowd control during the race
• providing information to the general public
• general event housekeeping, i.e. litter control
• assisting with car parking and directing people
• close and take down of the event.
No previous experience is needed but we would be happy to hear from anyone that has specific experience in the areas listed above. Volunteers must be over 16 and can come from all walks of life – young, retired, employed, looking for work and from different ethnic backgrounds. Whatever you are interested in, we will work with you to find the best option for you.
