Press regarding a recent European Court of Human Rights decision in the case of Barbulecua v. Romania, suggests employers have the absolute and unfettered rights to monitor and read private emails that have been sent or received by employees on the employer’s IT system.

This is not the case, and Employers should approach such issues with care.
