Brian started as an Electrical Contractor  in 1968, his wife Marion did most of the paperwork while he was out on the sites.

The business changed to wholesaling/retailing in 1978, when the shop was opened in the Kingston Road.  The name of the company came from the history of  Ewell, and the natural spring there.

Their son Andrew started full time in 1979 after working as Saturday boy, but this was just a temporary arrangement as he didn't like it at all and wanted to be a building surveyor.

However 34 years later, he is still here and has worked his way up to be M.D. "Andrew was a great help to me in growing the business and it was great having another family member on the pay roll." Says Brian.

Brian took a big step in 1981 by opening a new branch in Fetcham after a customer told him about the property being for sale. He says of the venture "I was concerned that there might not be enough business in such a small village and it was hard work getting it up and running but turned out ok in the end."

The company moved to the current site in Ewell in 1987. "We had to move premises as we had outgrown the old one, we were pleased to be able to stay in Ewell and it was an added bonus to be in the same road"  Brian said.

Spring Electrical is now run in the main by Andrew, Denise and Carolyn. Brian and Marion still work at the company although in a smaller way now as they are both semi- retired.

Brian says " It's a great feeling to know the family are taking over the company and the past 45 years of hard, but enjoyable work is being continued and who knows, in years to come it may be run by a third generation."
