A new Epsom & Ewell Community Fund, established specifically for the benefit of Epsom & Ewell and its residents, enables and encourages local giving to support local communities to develop and thrive. By building long term funding for local communities the Fund will develop the capacity to respond to local needs as they arise.

The Fund was launched on Tuesday 19th May by new Mayor, Councillor Chris Frost and will feature as one of his Mayoral Charities for 2015-16.

Mayor and Fund Panel Chair Chris Frost said “This is a Fund for local people run by local people where those who care about Epsom & Ewell can either donate now, or leave a legacy in the future.”

The Epsom & Ewell Community Fund will support local community and voluntary groups who are making a difference to the quality of local community life by awarding grants to fund their work. The Fund will provide an easy and effective means for local residents to celebrate communities and support them to thrive by pooling donations from companies, individuals and families to have a bigger impact.

Grants will be awarded to support initiatives including; cultural community projects, local green spaces, supporting those in need, increasing and developing existing community services and facilities and celebrating local communities.

Local businesses have been quick to see the benefits of the Fund, and Epsom Coaches Group has already signed up as a Founding Donor.

Melanie Cox, Epsom Coaches Group and Fund Panel Member explained “This fund provides the perfect way for our staff to give back to the local area and be involved in the grant making process, I am delighted this was elected by our team as our chosen charity to support this year.”

The Epsom & Ewell Community Fund is the latest in a range of Area Funds established across the county by local people in partnership with the Community Foundation for Surrey, an independent charitable trust established to inspire local philanthropy. The Foundation is already very active in the area, and last year awarded over £42,700 in grants to support local communities, voluntary groups and individuals in need in the Borough.

Executive Director of the Community Foundation for Surrey, Wendy Varcoe said “We are delighted to establish this new Fund through collective philanthropic giving to support local communities in Epsom & Ewell. By maximising Gift Aid the Fund provides an effective way to support your local community now and in the future.”
