“Our records show you have not yet claimed your £3897.16 from an accident……….” Sound familiar?
Sometimes there is a voice on the end of the line – sometimes nothing and the line goes dead…
“I’m not trying to sell you anything” “It’s a survey it will only take a minute” “Our system shows your computer is being attacked……
And that's just the phone - what about all the junk mail.
Most of us have heard of the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) – but for those you haven’t here are some links for TPS and other services available.
Telephone Preference Service (TPS)
The free opt out service enabling you to record your preference on the official register and not receive unsolicited sales or marketing calls.
Mailing Preference Service (MPS)
UK consumers generate over £25 billion of postal sales per year, the majority welcome the information and special offers they receive by post. However, some people might take a different view.
The MPS is here to make your choice known - so you get the mail you want and need.
Baby Mailing Preference Service
The Baby Mailing Preference Service is here to help reduce the number of baby-related mailings you receive. Many parents to be are happy to hear from companies who can help them at this exciting time in their lives but in the sad circumstances of the death of a baby, mailings to parents about baby products from well meaning companies can cause unintended hurt. That's why the Mailing Preference Service provides Baby MPS - a free service that is both sympathetic and effective.
Facsimile Preference Service (FPS)
Under Government legislation introduced on 1 May 1999 it is unlawful to send an individual an unsolicited sales and marketing fax without prior permission. Businesses have the opportunity to register fax numbers on which they do not wish to receive direct marketing faxes.
You can do this by registering with the Fax Preference Service. Although this Service is primarily aimed at businesses, as individuals have protection under the legislation, individuals may also register their fax numbers if they wish.
Before you apply however, you should be aware that registration may preclude you or your business from receiving information of value - thereby cutting you off from worthwhile business opportunities.
Corporate Telephone Preference Service (CPS)
The Corporate Telephone Preference Service (CTPS) is the central opt out register whereby corporate subscribers (see definition below) can register their wish not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to either all their organisation's telephone numbers, or to certain numbers. It is a legal requirement that companies do not make such calls to numbers registered on the CTPS.
It takes 28 days for the registration to become fully effective.
If you register any of your telephone numbers you need to be aware that you may not receive unsolicited telephone calls from other organisations which you and your colleagues may find useful and would be interested in receiving.
Visit the website CPS for more information on this service.
