Throughout the afternoon there was free yuletide children’s entertainment and free face painting in the Centre before the excitement of the Christmas lights switch-on show with the cast of this year’s panto led by children’s TV legend Dave Benson Phillips.
As the lights were switched on the crowds below were showered with confetti and balloons promoting The British Heart Foundation, The Ashley Centre’s chosen charity for 2014.
Father Christmas and the cast met people and stopped for photos after the switch on to the delight of their young fans.
