GUESTS had the chance to hear first hand about the work of their local health trust at a public meeting.

More than 80 people including patients, members of the public and hospital volunteers attended Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust's annual public meeting at St Helier Hospital

Chief executive Matthew Hopkins said: "There were many notable achievements to highlight during the year, including being named as one of the safest hospitals in the UK by the independent Dr Foster Hospital Guide.

"We have also met the vast majority of the Government's key standards for healthcare, including ensuring our patients are treated promptly.

"For example, 97 per cent of the 143,368 patients who attended our A&E departments last year were treated, admitted or discharged within a maximum of four hours. That's two per cent better than the national standard of 95 per cent."

Mr Hopkins also praised staff and volunteers for their effort and professionalism in the face of large-scale changes to the NHS.
