The Epsom & Ewell squad is gearing up for the P&G Surrey Youth Games which take place this weekend, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

254 young people have been selected for the Epsom & Ewell squad. The biggest team from the smallest Borough in Surrey, will be taking part in all 15 sports - basketball, badminton, boccia, non-contact boxing, contact boxing, girl’s cricket, girl’s football, hockey, lacrosse, netball, girl’s rugby, swimming, squash, table tennis and tennis.

Councillor Jan Mason, Chairman of the Leisure Committee, said, "Good luck to Team Epsom & Ewell who will be competing against 10 other Surrey Boroughs and Districts at this prestigious sporting event. We have consistently entered more teams than any other Borough and it is a credit to the young people who took part in the trials and coaching sessions, well done to all involved!

“P&G Surrey Youth Games is a great opportunity for young people to try a new sport, or to improve their skills by taking part in high quality free coaching sessions. It is a great weekend for everyone and the young people really enjoy themselves, make new friends and get to try a sport that they may not have had a go at before."

A record 453 young people aged between seven and 16 registered to take part in the free trials and coaching sessions organised by the Council and sponsored by Better in April, May and June.

The free training sessions for all sports were run by qualified coaches and the majority have direct links with local clubs' junior sections, offering youngsters who took part, a chance to get involved with a club on a more long-term basis.
