International Gastronomic Society
Chaine des Rotisseurs is a world recognised gastronomic society with over 25,000 members in more than 70 countries. It was founded in France in 1950 but traces its origins back to the 1200’s. Originally dedicated to the improvement of technical knowledge of its members, its role has changed over time.
The association is dedicated to honouring the preservation of the traditions and practise of the old French guild in a modern and truly international context.
Its main goal is to bring professional and amateur members – worldwide – together to celebrate their passion for fine cuisines and wines. It also actively encourages the development of young chefs and sommeliers through national and international competitions. It also provides international food support and aid to those in need.
The society in organised in national, provincial and local groups (bailliages) and this area is covered by the Thames Valley bailliage.
Joyce and Sean at 143 The Canopy have been members of the society for several years and are honoured to be hosting a dinner for the them on 23rd February.
They have been working on their menu and the specially selected wines to compliment every course. Knowing the superb food they produce, this will be an evening of exquisite cuisine and service, and a meeting of like minds enjoying their passion for good food.

The Chaine des Rotisseurs is a membership society but do offer guest visits to some of their gastronomic events to allow you see the high values they hold dear.
I spoke to Bob Hughes who is involved with the Thames Valley bailliage, a retired chef, his passion and love of cuisine and the society was infectious. Many members, like Bob are from the gastronomic world, but many are also people who simply love good food – good wine and good company.
