2012 was a big year in The Ashley Centre’s recycling programme as with the help of their retailers the centre went zero to landfill and won a Best Green Business Award.

Overall 116.91 tonnes were recycled last year. This is an amazing amount as it is equivalent to saving 1,987 trees, 818,370 gallons of water, 234 cubic yards of landfill and 479,331KW hours of electricity.

As well as this achievement the Centre also won the Best Green Business Award at the 2012 Epsom and Ewell Business Excellence Awards for their outstanding work on green issues.

The Ashley Centre Operations Manager Bobby Rafajec said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to each and every one of our retailers who have helped with the segregation of waste and committed in other ways to helping The Ashley Centre reduce its carbon footprint. It’s very important that we recognise our place in the community and take seriously our responsibilities to minimise our impact on the environment so we are absolutely delighted with the recycling achievement in 2012.”
