I visited Towner in December, with my young niece and nephew. We attended a 'Christmas Creations' family workshop, and it was truly fantastic, especially as it was free to attend. Amazing value, especially for families on low incomes, such as I.
The gallery itself is easily accessible - with what could be the largest elevator I have ever seen! I am passionate about architecture, so visiting the Towner gallery was a treat because it is a stunning example of exciting architecture.
The cafe is somewhat overpriced, but the coffee is great. There is a lovely gift shop with a range of quirky bits and pieces.
I personally preferred the modern art on the second floor, compared to the stuffy art on the first floor, but there was a film by Tacita Dean which credits the gallery greatly. They have a lovely piece by Grayson Perry too. Staff are welcoming and knowledgable - willing to explain more about the modern art on display.
I found my experience was hindered slightly by the locals being rather vocal about their dislike of modern art. It would have been great if they'd have taken the opportunity to understand the work instead of writing it off straight away.

If you like arechitecture and modern art, I highly recommend it.

We visit the Towner Gallery whenever we are in the area, particularly given that it houses the Ravilious collection. Previously, we have been frustrated at the small number of Ravilious paintings actually on display - although obviously they do need to rotate their displays to allow paintings to "rest" away from the light. On this occasion, there were more paintings on display than usual, which was good. We also went round the 100 year anniversary exhibition, which was a mixed bag, as expected. Some paintings were very much to our liking, others very much the opposite. That's the nature of art: some you like, some you don't. But it was well-displayed with plenty of information about the exhibits. A much-needed cup of tea in the cafe refreshed us before we left. All in all, a pretty satisfying experience.

Spoke to Andy from One Answer. He was very helpful and kind over the phone. Thanks to him I am now able to drive on the road.
Couldn’t be more happier from a friendly chap.
