This review is for visitors, since everyone who knows Eastbourne probably knows this pub already.
It is spacious – in the summer you can sit at a table outside or on the balcony. There is a wide choice of food, which is at a far higher level than the average pub grub.
What is particularly nice is that the bar is adequately staffed. We found that even on a busy holiday there was no struggling to catch someone's eye. It was all very relaxed, especially as the staff were so friendly.
The pub is quite active: depending on your tastes there are evenings for karaoke, a pub quiz and live concerts, among other things.

Went for the first time on a chilly Wednesday evening in early January - not many people about so getting a table was no problem. The young man who served us was delightful, nothing too much trouble. We are: one meat eater, one vegetarian and one vegan so it's not easy to keep us all happy. There are separate menus for veggie/vegan (and also for gluten free) and it is so nice to have a choice on the menu - many options for the veggie and only slightly fewer for the vegan. We had chilli con carne, butternut squash moussaka, and vegan nut roast (there was also a vegetarian version of this). All delicious. The nut roast was lovely and moist, served with really crispy roasties, mixed veg and a jug of gravy. The moussaka came with salad and sweet potato chips, and the chilli con carne with rice and salad. Two of us shared a fabulous vegan chocolate and coconut torte. Wine list not extensive but perfectly good and most come as glasses so we could all have something different. Although this is a traditional pub and there is no separate restaurant the service and quality of the food was excellent.

We called in here for brunch on New Years day. What a gem of a place. Gluten free catered for - both food and drink a very pleasant surprise.

This pub seems to draw you in as it very attractive from the outside so my wife and I went in and what a very pleasing atmosphere ,it was full and we were very luck to find a table. We studied the menu and as we had not had a Christmas roast dinner we chose the Nut Roast and picked a bottle of Red wine.
The red, a Merlot I believe, was excellent, full bodied with a lovely after taste, this is where the good news ends. Our meal finally came and did not look too appetizing but as we had not eaten since breakfast and it was now around 7pm, so we gave it a go. The nut roast was extremely dry the sprouts were overcooked and the roast spuds were naff and so was the rest of veg.
I know,, I know, I should have complained there and then but hunger got he better of me/us and I am sure that we have all be there when YOU JUST WANT SOMETHING TO EAT, and at certain times anything will do, and this was just one of those occasions.
When one of the bar staff came to collect the plates we let him know that the food was not of a good standard but hunger dictated why we ate it, all we got was a lukewarm apology.
So were the kitchen staff having a laugh and maintaining the renowned vendetta against many vegetarians by providing a plate of poor quality food ?. Have they never heard of Quorn ?
This was our first and last visit to this pub.

We enjoyed our meal. 3 of us. The staff here could not be nicer or more helpful The pub has a decent selection of draft beers and a good draft cider. In a great position just off the sea front.
Nearly gave them a four because of the huge portions and the lovely staff but the food though tasty is just solid good tucker. The mushroom and brie starter was huge with a million mushrooms swimming in a brie and garlic butter gravy. tasty if a bit unpretty. The fish and chips were again large with nice battered fish very fresh but not brilliant chips and again a bit piled up on the plate. Ham, eggs and bubble and squeek again tasty but a bit rustic. The chicken liver pate starter was delicious.Yes we would recommend it all for a hearty meal but previous reviewers were maybe a bit over enthusiastic understandably with their reviews because of the super lovely service.

Visited pub for dinner around 17.30. I had roast pork belly and my partner had lasagne. Both came out hot and freshly cooked. Both very tasty! Only downside is that the roast pork was one of the more expensive dishes and I don't think it was the best value for money. It was tasty but it wasn't a big portion, compared to the lasagne and other meals people had. The pub is quaint and has a nice atmosphere however I don't think I'd want to go any later as when we were leaving it was getting very busy. There is not a lot of seating and it is not the biggest of places meaning that it got crowded and loud quite quickly.
