The husband and I had decided to try somewhere different in England for our holiday and thought we would try out Eastbourne for a few nights. Our abode for the 4 nights here was the Burlington Hotel. It is located on the sea front and getting into town is very accessable. It is about 10-15 minutes walk from the train station and is ideally located. The room was comfortable and warm and we enjoyed our breakfast each morning. Staff were polite and made us feel very welcome. We will certainly be staying here again when down in Eastbourne.

I had a lovely stay here. There was a discount through the site as it was a weekday and I had an amazing room with a comfy bed and sea view. The bar is nice and there was a female singer performing, and she was good. The hotel has interesting historic features so you feel like you are stepping back in time. It’s unique. Check out the lift, for example. Friendly staff. I’ve stayed a few times now. I have been homeless for 2 months as I've been unemployed for 5 months, and staying in hotels/hostels and safety and a good night's sleep are important, and I found both here (not so at some other hotels in London). I came to the seaside cos the cost of staying in London is so high. I came to save money and have been back a few times. I've heard that the hotel may be renovated, so I hope none of its historic features are lost.

We got to experience three different rooms at this hotel. So I will give a completely honest review based on each room, we stayed in.

Firstly the staff were amazing and Abby on reception has the skill sets to become a Manager. Coming from a Managerial background myself at Gatwick Airport. Abby has all the qualities I would expect in a front facing customer service roll. Outstanding. The other girls on reception were amazing as well but Abby definitely stood out. She was friendly, caring and helpful.

The first night it was just me and my daughter for Airborne. Room 313. Sea view. Amazing views of the Pier and beach. The room was basic, but ok. We had a friendly seagull which my daughter loved. He tapped on the windows with his beak. Looking for food. Shower was great. The bathroom window had tissues stuffed around the frame. Disgusting. I can only assume to stop it rattling. But nonetheless, gross. The skirting boards near the kettle area had tea or coffee stains splashed all over them. Not cleaned.

We returned to The Burlington a few days later for my daughter’s birthday. We had family room. As her Dad was coming along. We were pleasantly surprised as this had two rooms in there. Room 312. Which was perfect as her Dad had his own room with a single bed and tv. Plus it houses a sink as well. With his own door we could shut him in ha ha. We had the double room. The layout was great. Sea view great. However this room had a few problems. The shower base fills up with water and wasn’t draining away. The toilet moved from side to side taking the Lino with it. The windows in the double room could only be opened if I stood on a chair. As there was no handles on the frame to open it. There was also an ant 🐜 problem, around the windows. When I opened the windows they were crawling in. I placed a piece of melon on the window cill outside and within 5 minutes it was completely covered in ants. One remote control for the tv didn’t work. So had to share one between both tv’s.

The next night, my daughters birthday. Her Dad left. My Mum came to stay and she got room 238 a basic room at the back. We upgraded to a superior sea view room as a treat for her birthday. This was by far the best view of everything. As the room was on floor two and the windows were lower down. When you sat in the chair you could see everything on the seafront. This was a refurbished room and huge. Although the bathroom was long and just about got passed the shower to reach the toilet. Definitely not designed for a person over a size 16. This room comes with a coffee machine and a large tv on the wall. Although the smart features did not work. The only issue we had in this room was the safety aspect. Due to the door lock bracket. It looked like someone had kicked it in. As the bracket was loose and coming away with the paintwork.

My mum had issues with her lock. Three times we couldn’t get the key out and had to call reception up. We were told they were new locks. But that was no good for a woman of 81 on her own.

Breakfast was great. But dinner was chaotic. There were three of us and the waitress tried to sit us at a table for two. She was very flustered. The restaurant wasn’t even busy at this stage. The food was ok, but the roast dinner was definitely Aunt Bessie’s roast potatoes and parsnips. But I don’t mind a bit of Auntie Bessie. Lol. This was included in the room price. Was was good value. But not worth it if you had to pay £22 on the day. The table behind us got served their desert before their mains. Being all elderly they were very confused. It was funny and quite Fawlty Towers at that moment. The restaurant staff were ok. But the men in particular were a little unkempt in my opinion. We saw the restaurant manager going off shift and walking out through the town with his uniform in an Iceland carrier bag. Not a good look for the hotel. I figure that’s where the Aunt Bessie potatoes came from.

Bar staff were lovely and friendly too. But difficult to get some water to drink on a hot day, before 12pm. As that’s when the bar opens. Perhaps some water urns and jugs outside would be great for guests to help themselves. As I have seen in many hotels before.

Both tv’s were never on. As remotes couldn’t be found by the staff and when they were, they didn’t work. Most hotels have a tv on in the background with a news channel. So you can see the time etc. But three occasions we were there. Nothing. We went into a few hotels along the front. Most had a tv on.

Lifts very small, but do the job.

The seating area, in the lobby. Was large with plenty of tables and chairs. But after a while they are so uncomfortable. The hotel needs a few sofas dotted about and some wingback chairs for comfort. Especially as most of the clientele are elderly.

As the hotel is dog friendly, I think certain rooms should be allocated to dog owners. As I got bitten in one of the rooms and there were small dog hairs on one of the beds.

Entertainment, is non existent in the day. However one night they had a singer, who was quite good.

The overall cleanliness of the hotel needs to be looked at. A deep clean is desperately needed on the stair cases especially the one behind reception. As the wooden part is completely covered in tea stains. The skirting boards also need to be thoroughly cleaned in the rooms. The hotel should be closed for a day for this all to take place or one floor at a time.

Overall I appreciate old hotels like this. Steeped in history. It’s amazing. I have stayed in Windsor in a 400 year old hotel as well. I love them. But just because they are old is no excuse for basic cleanliness in the rooms and corridors.

This is a great hotel, with potential to reach 4 stars if managed correctly. It’s in a prime position to be the best. I will definitely return. We had another night at The Cumberland in a refurbished room sea-view. Which was done to a high standard. The Burlington could follow suit. As the feel of The Burlington and the staff make this hotel. It’s just the cleanliness and maintenance that sadly fall short.

My husband and I stayed overnight in the Beautiful Burlington Hotel and thought the hotel was amazing! The Burlington is perfectly located right on the sea front within a short stroll to the Pier or shops. The hotel has recently been renovated to a very high standard with tasteful decor throughout. However still maintaining the original character and period features of the building. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly right from the moment we arrived! From the gentleman who greeted us upon arrival to the restaurant/bar staff.
We had a suite directly overlooking the sea front which was dual aspect. Providing spectacular views of the coastline front both the front and side of the room. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated and the bed was extremely comfortable! I think the Burlington is an exceptionally good hotel and very good value for money.

excellent seafront location central for the pier and eating places, it also has the bonus of carparking, which is at a premium in the area. We just needed a room for 1 night and this place provides great value for money. The room was clean and tidy, if a little dated but as it was just for sleeping in it had everything we needed. Helpful staff, we paid for the breakfast which was OK.

Unfortunately it was not up to stranded I booked a "deluxe dble room" over looking the sea, but was much more of Standed dble room very tired worn out looking room window sills rotten dirty windows . No fridge. Breakfast was not the best limited choice .waiter in the breakfast room though was lovely .I've been here twice before and the rooms were so much better than this last one

We had two weekends at the Burlington. Booked a Superior Sea View room - 218. Lovely room, but completely spoilt by poor housekeeping. The carpet was absolutely filthy, could not have been vacuumed for weeks. There were empty coffee sachets on the floor, two lots of tablets scattered, obviously somebody's medication, and also in the bedside drawer, the previous occupants ID card. The second weekend, we had room 307. Once again, lovely room, but spoilt by poor housekeeping. Once again, the carpet needed a good clean. We let the housekeeping go in once to "tidy"!! The bed, well, that was hilarious, the bottom sheet had not been touched and the duvet literally just pulled over the bed. The tea tray had not been replenished. As it was a superior room, I think too, we should have had replacement water and biscuits, which we did not get. The bins were absolutely filthy. In the bathroom were cobwebs and black mould over the window, The housekeeper must have been in the room, literally, 2 minutes, at the most. There is obviously no senior management to check on these "housekeepers".

It's such a shame because we found the Reception staff so nice and helpful, all credit to them. The food was excellent, breakfast being tested each morning for correct temperature. Very convenient position, right on the front. Car park - well, we managed just to find a space both times, but there are so many cars in there, I wonder if they are all connected to the Burlington?

We shall certainly not be returning to the Burlington again, I was glad to get home to our clean house!!

Had an amazing time staying at this hotel.from the moment we got there at 3 booked in, our room was ready went straight there to drop suitcases off.The room was spotless and had all amenities we needed.All the staff were amazing from receptionists,bar staff waiters to housekeepers they are an absolute credit to your hotel! We paid extra for dinners and breakfast,honestly couldn’t fault the food! Breakfast there were so many choices! And the evening meals were fabulous! We arrived at the Burlington Hotel Eastbourne on the 25th September for 6 nights after deciding to finally stay here after admiring this grand old building for so many years. I moved to Germany more than 10 years ago and always return once a year to visit my family and am so annoyed with myself that we have not stayed here before and have missed out all these past visits on the chance to stay here. Honestly as the title of the review says we absolutely love The Burlington Hotel and had the most wonderful time staying here. We were given room 210 which was a superior twin room with sea view and it did not disappoint at all. Wi-Fi always worked amazingly the whole time we was here and very easy to connect to, the bed was heavenly and we slept like babies every single night. The mattress was top top quality it really was and the duvet was just perfect along with the pillows. The towels and bedding were perfectly white and Importantly super clean. The large flatscreen tv had plenty of tv channels to choose from so always something to suit all tastes. We absolutely loved the view from our room and we are really missing sitting at the window listening to the sea hit the shoreline as the sound was so beautiful and we loved falling asleep and waking each day to this magical sound. The hotel could not be more perfectly located literally opposite the pier and a couple of minutes away from the town Center. Saturday evening there was a quiz which was great fun following that there was fantastic entertainment from the very talented singer Andrew he was such a lovely friendly guy and certainly got everyone singing along and there was such a great atmosphere the whole evening. The fellow guests staying here are a real eclectic mix of ages and characters and all so very friendly. Liam & Joe at the bar are absolutely brilliant and always super friendly with a great sense of humor. I must mention the food here as it blew us away both at breakfast and dinner, the quality of the ingredients used was absolute top notch and the food always perfectly cooked. Breakfast time is an absolute feast with a special mention for that bacon! Oh my I have never seen such perfection every single day. There must be a very talented head chef as the attention to detail and perfection both at breakfast and dinner was fantastic and amazing value for money at £22 for a 3 course evening dinner, so without a doubt a huge compliment to the chef and kitchen staff. The staff in the restaurant both at breakfast and dinner are truly so so hard working and always so polite, friendly and an absolute pleasure to see every day so special mentions must go to Ann, Wayne and Cornel you guys work so hard and we saw that everyday. Sarah on reception was always so friendly, helpful and always on hand to help in any way. On the Saturday evening the fire alarm was set off and the super lovely female manager handled the evacuation with true calm and professionalism, am so sorry I did not get your name but your self also was always a pleasure to speak with. When the 1st of October came around and it was time to return home to Germany we was so sad to leave as honestly as the title of my review says - The Burlington Hotel Eastbourne we absolutely love you! and we most certainly will be returning next year and every year after without a doubt. Just to end when I see the negative reviews it truly pains me as I know how hard everyone works here and seriously people need to be realistic with their expectations. You cannot pay a Burlington Hotel price but have the expectations of the standards of staying at the Hilton or the Marriot. To please everyone complaining would not cost just millions it would be tens of millions if not more. I dread to imagine the size of the electric, water , gas etc etc bills as well as general maintenance costs and business rates etc etc . Renovations and improvements will always be an ongoing issue in any hotel and certainly one of this size and grandeur on the seafront with all the problems that salty sea air brings. They are doing their utmost best and people seriously need to lower expectations and be realistic. Until next time. Love - Respect and much Admiration.
