The welcome was warm and we luckily got a table. It was a very busy evening especially as the rain had been hewing it down all day.
The was a slight mix up with our food order but the manageress was quick to sort it out for us and the food arrived as promised. Thank you for lovely meal.

Good traditional pub grub that was well served and the service was friendly and polite. A plethora of menus to choose from including a useful gluten free one. We only had mains but the pudding menu looked tempting.

food nice enough if rather expensive for average pub grub. Atmosphere OK, but nothing to write home about. Drinks expensive.

We ate here last night, it was rammed downstairs but as soon as we entered the bar a guy asked us if we were eating & was shown to a table upstairs.
I had cheeseburger bacon & chips and salad & I had the most unusual (but tasty) šŸ˜‹ little red peppers. The girl behind the bar was a real asset to the pub as she was attentive but not intrusive. She was also rushed off her feet but was unflappable.

Whilst on holiday visited after reading trip advisor reviews , I would not have given it more than three stars . We ordered a half a roast chicken £12.95 ( wow ) and a quiche £10.95 , the meals are not cheap . Both arrived quite quickly nothing to write home about , lots of small chips with the chicken . My wife then ordered a chocolate torte £ 4.50 , when it arrived it was very small , no ice cream or cream . I did mention it to the girl at the till when paying, saying the sweet was small but she just laughed it off as I told her older people do complain if it is not up to standard, no refund .

We had a very nice dinner at the Crown & Anchor: tasty food, cider and ale. Very friendly personnel. Even karaoke was nice (considering that we are not karaoke fans, really))! We never tried it, but other participants were great, and the kid singing some rock hits was absolutely stunning!)

Really impressed with this pub! We were visiting Eastbourne and found this on TripAdvisor. We were a party of 6 - youngest 4, oldest 73yrs. We had the lamb shank and boy, it was certainly delicious- a large portion which I shared with my 4 yr old and he couldn't get enough of it! My younger son had the BBQ chicken which he finished off quite happily. Even the sweet potato chips went down a right treat! What really impressed us was that alongside their main menu, they had a really decent Gluten Free menu readily available with a varied selection of desserts. Staff were attentive and friendly and kept checking up on us. Good service and lovely food!

Years ago you could actually see the sea from the out-door tables but not since the modern sea defence wall was built. But it’s still ā€œal frescoā€ in spite of being perched at what has become a busy road junction. (These days you can only see the sea from the balcony of the Function Room upstairs.)
I’ve been a fan of Greene King traditional pubs for decades but although this is supposedly one of theirs it didn’t show up on their website.
It has the prestigious Cask Marque status for it’s guest cask beers but other beers are a bit of an eclectic collection. Sadly, the classic Greene King beers were missing.
Apparently it was the ā€œEastbourne Herald Pub of the Yearā€ in 2016. This is probably because a lot had been spent on refurbishing it for a more youthful market. It is marketed as being ā€œone of Eastbourne’s most exciting, up and coming pubsā€, but this relies heavily on the TV, live music three nights per week, pool etc. It purports to have ā€œsomething for everyoneā€, and, whilst this might be so for groups of young regulars, it doesn’t augur well for couples or the passing trade. It probably does well out of the late teens on holiday who would rather not be in Eastbourne anyway.
The lunch menu is mostly burgers with some mains from Cod & Chips to baked potatoes with assorted fillings, a couple of ā€œsharing plattersā€ and various vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes.
We had a Chilli Con Carne on a bed of rice, which came with a small decorative mixed salad and a couple of slices of garlic bread, and a Macaroni Cheese, that came with a larger portion of the mixed salad. Both these dishes were sensible portions of nice food, with the salads particularly nice. We didn’t try any of the desserts.
