The landlady has done a reasonable job since taking over a couple of years ago in turning this place around. However, in the past couple of months the place seems to be falling apart. The performance of some of the bar staff in the last few times I visited is well below par - I think that perhaps some of the reviews on this site have gone to their heads. The newcomers behind the bar (in the main) should never have been employed, or should at least have been better trained, and the others that have been in situ for some time need to up their game if they do not wish new customers to take the same view as myself. Complacency is the kiss of death!

Excellent. The real ale was great, Old Trip. The food was tasty, I had fish and chips, the fish batter was excellent and the portions were huge, but very well priced. The bar staff were friendly.

I visited here last year as was very impressed. Well, I'm back on the coast again to watch the Airshow and had another great meal here.
The pub itself is just across from the seafront and stocks a few ales from the greene king selection, as well as a guest ale. I had the IPA which was great. You can tell that the pub looks after it's ales.
For dinner I had the lamb shank and my wife had cod and chips. The food is served quickly and you can tell they care about the food as much as the ales. Great selection of veg, good quality meat and a large portion! My wife's fish was of the same quality- tasty batter and good portion. The service was excellent and the barmaids were working away happily.
All in all a nice place to be.

In Eastbourne lunchtime a couple of days ago, stuck for somewhere to eat, took a quick look at Trop Advisor and saw this place was close so thought we would give it a try. So pleased we did, friendly locals, great food, excellent value and efficient service, was def one the highlights of our visit. Give it a try, don't get ripped off eating on one of the hotels.

On a busy sunday evening this pub is somewhat noisy if you want to have a chat. We were there with a group of 4 friends. One of us has strict diet rules and the cook himself came from the kitchen to discuss that with her, that was good, and the food she got was just what she needed. I had a chili with rice. It was okay but the pepper was somewhat overwhelming. A bit of salad would have been nice. One of my friends wasn't too happy with her cod. As far as vegetables are concerned this pub confirms all the prejudices of the British kitchen. Peas, very big green peas. It was not bad but I have been in better pubs in England.
