The food was good and a very reasonable price.
The bed was fine and we had a good fan to keep the room comfortable. The main parts of the hotel were clean and reasonably good.
Unfortunately the fascade and the windows in particular were in a very bad state. The window frames were badly rotted, paint in a very poor state and mouldy . We had 3 windows in our room. , one unable to be opened and the other two could only be opened approximate 3 inches.
And one of these was in danger of falling apart.

Ok for the price compared to other hotels in Eastbourne Good location and helpful staff My bathroom needed a good clean and the furniture in the room was in a poor state.

I negotiated an upgrade before arrival but was not given it and told it wasn't available.

I would definitely come back to this hotel — of course, if the price is still attractive. For those who have never been Review of my 3-night stay in Eastbourne

First of all, all the hotels by the seaside in Eastbourne are very old and definitely in need of renovation. This affects the overall quality, and the prices are generally inflated just because of the location. It’s worth checking the prices carefully before your trip, because they can jump very high. We were lucky to book a room at this hotel just 2 days before arrival at an attractive price — we paid £220 for 3 nights, which is acceptable. Fun fact: when I checked availability on Saturday for just one night (Saturday–Sunday), only three very poor hotels were left, and the prices were around £350 per night — so you really need to plan and book early.

As for this hotel: the location is great, not far from the pier and the main street with shops and restaurants. However, our room was facing that street, so if you like to sleep in late, be aware that the street noise might disturb you. The ladies at the reception could have been a bit more welcoming — some of them seemed like they didn’t really want to be there.

The hotel seems very popular with elderly guests, which for us was actually a plus because we value peace and quiet. In another hotel in the past, we ended up with big international groups of young people, and they completely ruined the stay with loud conversations, running through the corridors, and playing music — fortunately, nothing like that happened here.

Summary:
I would definitely come back to this hotel — of course, if the price is still attractive. For those who have never been to Eastbourne, keep in mind that the standard of all hotels here is not quite like what you might expect in other countries, so don’t be surprised. But yes — I would return to this hotel.

Excellent No problems with the self service breakfast arrangement, much better than having the waitress service here a few years ago.
Location is ideal for the Promenade and accessing the South Downs.
The bottom of the Room doors are not fire sealed, to prevent smoke entry, all the rest of the building appears to comply with current fire safety regulations.
They do need to inform guests on the date and time they undertake the weekly fire alarm test, as no warning was given.

Great location, lovely staff, comfortable bed and armchairs, fantastic view. The first room we were allocated smelled damp (no good for an asthmatic) but the receptionist very efficiently swapped us to another which was perfect. The only issue was the loud party going on outside late each night by the pier, which was nothing to do with the hotel but annoying nonetheless.

Love Eastbourne, will come again. The location of the hotel is superb. We’d bought the superior sea view room which had a magnificent view of the promenade and the sea. The food was good and plentiful, breakfast excellent. Rooms serviced daily if required.
This hotel is very old so if you can see past the quaint old fashioned style and features , then you’ll love it.
Having a room at the front of the hotel and the weather being very hot at the time, the road noise was very noticeable.

Would easily stay here again Massive room (superior twin) comfy and clean with great views of the sea and pier. Nice big shower, loved it. Snug lift! Teeny tiny! But other than that, I can’t fault it.
