Trace one of the defining episodes in English history on a guided visit connecting two of the most important sites associated with the Norman Conquest.
Led by Julian Humphrys, the day begins with a visit to Pevensey Castle, close to where William of Normandy’s army landed in 1066. The castle itself offers a much broader sweep of history, with surviving remains spanning from Roman times through to the Second World War.
After travelling to Battle and taking a break for lunch, the visit continues by exploring the scene of the Battle of Hastings before looking at Battle Abbey, founded by William the Conqueror on the site of his victory.
The event is free for Battlefields Trust members and £15 for non-members. Separate admission charges to Pevensey Castle and Battle Abbey apply for visitors who are not English Heritage members.
