A care home in Hailsham is inviting the local community to its free dementia networking event.

On Monday 18th Mayfrom 12.30pm-1.30pmCare UK’s Bowes House on Battle Road will be holding its annual dementia networking lunch. The special event aims to bring together local people with a range of service providers who care for those living in the community with dementia, as well as their families.

Guests can enjoy a buffet lunch, specially prepared by the home’s Head Chef, meet the Bowes House team and spend time learning about the resources and materials available, in a relaxed, caring setting.

Dementia can affect every aspect of a person’s life, from memory and communication to confidence and independence. As the condition progresses, it also impacts families, friends and carers, who may find themselves unsure how best to look after a loved one or feeling worried about saying the wrong thing. Events like this aim to break down those barriers, helping people feel better informed, more confident and less alone.

Lisa PhillipsCustomer Relations Manager at Bowes House, said: “Dementia can sometimes make it harder for people to express themselves  whether that’s the person living with the condition or the loved ones around them who want to help but don’t always know how.

“Through our dementia networking lunch, we want to create a welcoming space where people can ask questions, share experiences and learn practical ways to support loved ones more confidently and compassionately. By bringing the community together, we hope to make dementia something people feel able to talk about, rather than something they face in silence.

“We encourage the local community to join us so that together we can build a more dementia-friendly Hailsham.”

As part of its commitment to the surrounding community, Bowes House is inviting local residents to a free, informative talk, ‘Let’s Talk about Dementia’, on Friday 26 June from 2pm–3.30pm.This event will shine a light on some aspects of dementia that aren’t often spoken about, as well as why a loved one might be behaving differently and what you can do to support them.

In addition, the Hailsham community can explore a newly launched online advice hub, which features in-depth conversations with families of people living with dementia alongside expert advice from Care UK’s specialists.

Bowes House is a state-of-the-art care home that provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to lead enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the building boasts its own café, cinema and hair and beauty salon. The home offers a comprehensive activity programme, featuring a mix of themed events and group activities both inside and outside.
