Chailey Bonfire Society returns with its annual village celebration, continuing a tradition that can be traced back to 1866.
The evening is designed very much as a family event, with particular emphasis on making the fireworks suitable for children. The torchlit procession traditionally includes steam engines, vintage vehicles and themed children’s floats, with local groups and villagers encouraged to take part in costumes and decorated floats.
The procession normally makes its way through the village before returning towards the firework field, with road closures introduced for safety while the procession is underway. Previous celebrations have included a stop near The Five Bells and a memorial service at Chailey Green before the procession returns for the fireworks.
Chailey Bonfire Society had to cancel its 2025 celebration, but its published 2026 diary confirms that Bonfire Celebrations are planned to return this November. The society notes that its events remain subject to available help and possible change or cancellation.
