We currently care for more than 1000 people every year and have been providing our services to a population of 230,000 in Eastbourne and the surrounding areas for over 30 years. Our vision is of a community where people talk openly about dying, live well until the end of their lives, and where nobody dies alone, afraid, or in pain.
We employ specialist teams to support patients 24/7 in 15 short stay in-patient beds, a Wellbeing Centre, and in patients’ own homes. Our care encompasses the physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of the patient. Our care encompasses the physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of the patient, and our services include: physiotherapy, chaplaincy, counselling, and art therapy.
All of the care that we offer is free of charge, regardless of patients’ circumstances. It costs just over £11,000 every day to run our hospice, and 85% of these costs are covered by the incredible generosity of our community.
Our café is based in the heart of our hospice, The Street, and was a new addition to the hospice when we moved into the award-winning, purpose-built site on Broadwater Way. We are very proud to be able to offer this light, open and warm café to patients, their friends and relatives, our staff and volunteers, and our local community. Everybody is welcome.
From delicious homemade cakes and coffees, to home-cooked hot meals and freshly prepared sandwiches, our café boasts an array of culinary delights at fantastic prices. All of the profits raised through our café go directly towards supporting our patients and their families.
We like to make the most of this wonderful space and regularly host musical performances or other creative events, showcasing our local talent.
We hope that you will come in, enjoy a cup of tea, some food, and some music, and start to think differently about hospices. St Wilfrid’s is a very friendly, happy and uplifting place to be. We’re sure that your overwhelming impression will be of life being lived well.
There are many ways that you can support St Wilfrid’s Hospice. You can donate to us via our website, by telephone, or by cheque, get involved with one of our many hospice events or undertake your own fundraising endeavour, play our lottery, visit our café, shop in any of our seven retail outlets, leave us a gift in your will, share our content on social media, or simply just spread the word about what we do! It is a privilege to be part of such a creative, generous and giving community, and we are incredibly grateful for all that you do.
