Set in historic 1066 Country just a short drive from Eastbourne, Pevensey Castle is one of Britain’s most remarkable heritage sites. These dramatic ruins tell a story that stretches back more than 1,600 years, from Roman coastal defences to the Norman Conquest and beyond.

Originally built as a Roman Saxon Shore fort around AD 290, the site was later strengthened by William the Conqueror’s forces in 1066. Over the centuries it evolved into a medieval castle with vast curtain walls, towers and defensive structures that are still impressive today.
