A well established part of the Sussex bonfire calendar, Newick Bonfire Society brings the village together each year for an evening shaped by tradition, preparation and community pride.
The annual event begins with a torchlit procession through Newick’s streets, followed by the lighting of a large bonfire and a fireworks display. Rooted in Sussex bonfire history, the society reflects both remembrance of the Gunpowder Plot and the preservation of local customs.
Volunteers dedicate months to preparing traditional hazel torches and building the bonfire itself. Their commitment ensures this long standing village tradition continues to draw visitors from across the region while keeping strong local involvement at its heart.
