Formed in 1892, the society commemorates the Protestant martyrs burned at the stake in 1556. The carnival, held on the third Saturday of September, features an extraordinary mile long torchlit procession, with around 5,000 burning torches lighting the village streets before the evening concludes with a large bonfire and fireworks display.
Known as the Boyes and Belles, members work throughout the year to organise the event and raise funds for local charities. Their commitment keeps this historic Sussex tradition alive while bringing generations of families together in shared remembrance and celebration.
