The concessions granted to Friends on ticket prices for opening nights, along with ‘Meet the Cast’ evenings were started from the onset and continue today. Dedicated describers continue the service to blind and partially-sighted patrons and a rota of voluntary stewards assists the paid staff at all performances.
Now, more than thirty years on, it continues to be a strong organization working for the benefit of the Devonshire Park Theatre and with more than 1300 members is possibly among the largest provincial theatre Friends groups in the country. To date, the Friends have contributed more than £265,000 to projects at the theatre with more planned especially following the work currently underway on the refurbishment and restoration of the fabric of the exterior of the building.
