After many attempts to obtain a copy of my mother's probate certificate from the government website I had to give up because they could only supply probate certificates for deaths that occurred BEFORE 1996. If your loved one died after that , the government cannot or will not help, or at least not using a simple online search. The gentleman who owns this website has kindly advised me to apply for a copy of the certificate through the post by sending a postal order. He was very helpful and answered my call immediately and without my having to listen to endless recorded messages and then be put in a long queue as is usually the case these days.

Thank you for your helpful and informative 'How long does probate take' pages.
In my case 35 weeks with many of your points arising although I followed your clear and helpful advice. Phone not answered, e-mails not replied to, an escalation that achieved nothing, a second escalation that was not even recorded. Promises of calls from a senior manager that never arrived. For some reason a Grant arrived just a week after my MP wrote to them, can't think why!
I signed your petition although I fear there will be little public awareness of this problem and not enough takeup.

Best wishes

Geoff Vowles

If I could give 10 stars I would!! I called thinking this was the government number but as Steve answered the phone in seconds I realised it wasn't. The information he gave me was knowledgeable and clear, something the forms and process of probate is not. I am so grateful.thsnk you so much - I would definitely recommend giving them a call

I was extremely concerned when my dear friend of 42 years died suddenly & I was not allowed to attend his funeral.
Gi had not married & had no children. He did have a niece however who was handling proceedings. She lied & told me that the funeral was going to be a small family affair - she clearly didn't wish me there for some reason. I was immediately suspicious. Apparently Gi left everything to his 95yr old mother & Amber did not want me to have any contact with the Beneficiary. Gi had wanted me to have a gift apparently.
The Executor, (recovering from a stroke 2 yrs ago) her father & older brother to the deceased, has not applied for Probate & the niece has already moved into my friend's home, ripping up floors, totally re decorating & discarding his possessions. She is a greedy, dishonest woman, who has absolutely no respect for Giora's memory. HMRC will be contacted for IHT.
Steve was fantastically helpful & gave me very sensible advice. Thank you Steve for responding so quickly & for telling me what I already suspected. What a dreadfully sad family!!
She needs to be punished... I believe in Karma :-)
Many thanks,
Joanna Anscombe-Bell.
