Playing tennis in a bubble?

So what's a tennis bubble exactly?

So what did you do during the snow fall, fight your way to work, or even fight your way out of the drive way.

I am based in Pickhurst Rise in West Wickham and I felt like Sir Edmund Hillary when I was able to get the car off the drive way and on to the road.

Being a keen tennis player I was itching to get on court and practice that elusive back hand shot I can’t master.

The local courts are 10 inches under snow so I decided to make my way to  Bromley Cricket Club and use their brand new indoor tennis dome. It can be hired without being a social member.

Have a look at a video of the air bubble official opening here.

So we pitched up to the air hall with it being minus 1 outside and made our way into the spacious dome / bubble.

Once inside it’s hard to remember that it is not a permanent structure with the temperature being controlled perfectly to enable us to play in normal tennis attire.

The courts are concrete and appear brand new providing and excellent surface to play on. In fact after 10 minutes we were working a quite a sweat in the warm temperature.

I expected the sound in air hall to provide a sharp echo when the ball came of the racket and I thought I find this irritating but I found the opposite, the sound was slightly muffled and not in the least over bearing.

The main delight for tennis fans I think is the lighting. The hall has up lighting all the way round so it created the perfect light conditions and never once are looking straight into a glaring light.

So we played for an hour and a half and have to say I enjoyed the experience immensely.

So if you are a keen tennis player and would like to experience something unique to Bromley get your self booked into the air hall for a bash.

While there you can also check out Bromley Cricket Club as a social member. You don’t have to be a cricketer to enjoy the club, social members are very welcome and the food they provide for social family occasions is of a very high standard.

I hope you enjoy all Bromley Cricket club and all it has to offer as much as I did.
