Dare I say it - here we are again. This morning we wake up to news that yet again there has been a ransomware attack that has caused major disruption around the world.
What is a ransomware attack?
Ransomware is a type of malicious software that blocks access to data or threatens to publish or delete it until a ransom is paid.
This particular one began in the Ukraine but has rapidly spread to affect businesses around the world including UK advertising company WPP and Danish shipping giant Maersk.
Believed to be similar to the massive "Wannacry" attack that recently crippled the NHS, this one is called "Goldeneye". Those affacted by the attack are asked to pay a 300-dollar ransom after their computer has crashed and their hard drive is encrypted.
