Croydon Business Rate Relief Scheme
The scheme is a major incentive for new and growing firms to set up in Croydon or for existing businesses to increase in size. It will help firms who move into properties that are not already covered by the government’s small business rate relief scheme, which applies to properties with a rateable value of less than £25,500.
The business rate relief encourages small and medium enterprises to move into the town centre, where there is available office space. The savings made by each business will mean that cash can be put back into growth and job creation in Croydon.
The initiative runs from October 2012 to March 2015. It is targeted exclusively in and around the town centre in the area which is referred to as “Croydon New Town” in the list of the Mayor of London’s Opportunity Areas for business and employment growth.
The scheme aims to create or maintain jobs and, importantly, reduce the vacancy rate by 9% of office accommodation stock within Croydon New Town Companies with less than 250 employees and a turnover of less than £40million per annum are eligible to apply if they take up space (more than £25,500 rateable value) in the targeted area.
